Pianist — Andrew Axelrod

Andrew Axelrod is a refreshing presence on the concert stage. A pianist of great intelligence and imaginative tonal resources, he reveals ever new facets of the standard repertory and has a particular affinity for lesser-known piano works and composers.

Mr. Axelrod has been heard in solo, collaborative, and chamber recitals in the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, and Europe. He has made solo orchestral appearances with l'Orchestre Symphonique de Quebec, the Nashville Symphony, the Charlotte Symphony, the Pacific Symphony Orchestra, and performed the North American premiere of Michel Legrand's Concerto for Two Pianos and Orchestra with the composer. He has been featured in showcases in Chicago at the Cultural Center, played the inaugural recital of the Friends of Mozart Society, performed in the world premiere of the Shoenberg/Stein transcriptions of Mahler's Fourth Symphony with the New Society for Private Musical Performance, and has participated as a member of the contemporary music ensemble, TRANSIT. He has also been heard on live broadcasts for National Public Radio and recorded television and film scores.

Mr. Axelrod was born in Detroit and began piano instruction at age three. Committed to teaching, he has been an instructor at Indiana University, New York University, and dedicates part of his schedule to private teaching in New York City, where he now lives. He is pleased to be returning to the Midwest to make a debut appearance in Milwaukee.
